ADHD – We Can Help!
Memory and attention training for ADHD
As brain training can sometimes replace medication or other treatment, we recommend brain training as a complementary solution.
Memory training
Scientific studies show, working memory training can reduce symptoms of attention-deficit and hyperactivity in children. Working memory is the ability to retain information that guides behavior for temporarily storing and managing the information required to carry out complex cognitive tasks such as learning.
ADHDtherapy360 developed a series of brain training games that train cognitive skills on a home computer. The games are designed with bright, captivating graphics and crisp sound. The site also offers a variety of personal training programs. Brain training programs do not claim to replace medication, but control and relieve ADHD symptoms. When you improve working memory, you improve fluid IQ - the ability to solve problems or adapt to situations in real time. Children who perform memory-training programs become more alert to their surroundings and find it easier to socialize. Parents feel that their kids become more mature from participating in our brain training program.
Children who perform memory-training programs improve their hygiene habits and are more likely to do chores. They remember to bring materials to and from school. Users of memory training programs also report of maintaining their working memory gains or improving them, at six-month and one-year follow-ups.
Attention training
The root cause of learning difficulties is one or more weak cognitive skills - the fundamental tools of effective learning. Cognitive skills enable us to focus, think, prioritize, plan, understand, visualize, remember and create useful associations, and solve problems successfully. A child's cognitive skill set is made up of several cognitive skills including visual perception, memory, executive functions logic and reasoning and attention skills. In children with ADHD, the weakest cognitive skill is attention, although other areas tend to ADHDtherapy360's brain training games provide quick, constant feedback and stimulation and are very engaging for people with ADHD. Neuroscience shows that targeting and stimulating the underactive region of the brain responsible for the characteristics of attention-deficit can enhance attention.
Our research proves the correct approach to ADHD is the opposite of the more common school methods, like removing distractions, reducing workload, or isolating students into quiet areas.

Behavioral ADHD treatment and Brain training - complementary solution
Brain training is beneficial as a complementary treatment to other methods. It relates to training the brain with the new schemes, and giving the added value between sessions. Millions of parents face a tough decision when their child is diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) – whether to treat their child medically or not. Studies increasingly show that though medication may tranquil a child's behavior, it will not improve grades, peer relationships or rebellious behavior over the long term. Recent studies, focusing on the disorder's neurobiology, support the idea that many children with ADHD have cognitive deficits, specifically in working memory. The cognitive problem expresses behaviorally as attention-deficit, hence poor academic performance. Such research not only questions the value of medicating ADHD children, it is also shifting the understanding of ADHD from behavioral to biological and leading to more meaningful treatment that includes cognitive training. Although stimulant medication improves working memory, the effect is small, suggesting that medication is not sufficient and complimentary methods are favored. In fact, working-memory deficits may origin several disabilities, not just ADHD, highlighting the heterogeneity of the disorder.
Research for alternative ADHD treatment takes place in many schools. Scientists have found that children who didn't receive medical treatment, but participated in a brain-training program, no longer met the clinical criteria for ADHD after five weeks of training. After two years, kids treated with behavioral therapy only, (parent training, school intervention and a special summer camp program) functioned just as well as kids on high-dose medication. Also an additional 8% of the children in the behavioral arm were medicated at the end of the second year, indicating that most parents in this group were satisfied with behavioral therapy.
What is ADHD?
"Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" is a neurological medical condition that impacts individuals in four main categories:
1. Attention: Creating difficulties in paying attention, focusing on a task, or finishing tasks, especially when these tasks are not interesting.
2. Impulsivity: Overpowering one’s self-control. Impulsive behaviors, or choices, might sabotage relationships, work and school
3. Hyperactivity: Many (though not all) with ADHD are jumpy, hyperactive, always fidgety and restless.
4. Easily Bored: Tasks that are entertaining such as computer games, TV programs and outside playing keep the attention of those with ADHD. Those with attention disorders are often easily bored by lackluster tasks such as homework, math tests, balancing checkbooks, or doing taxes, and find it hard to finish these tasks.
People of all ages can suffer from Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The disorder is expressed in different "looks" or "types." It may severely impact behavior for some, or greatly impact learning for others. In its milder version, it just impacts attention, focus, concentration, and getting the job done. Attention-Deficit impacts about 5 % of children and teenagers, and about 3% of all adults. Less than half of children with ADD find relief in their adolescence or adulthood. Neglecting to treat the disorder can have long-term adverse effects into adolescence and adulthood.

Can brain training replace Ritalin, Concerta or other medication?
The drug market offers various medical treatments for ADHD, such as Ritalin and Concerta. Although these medications are a once-daily treatment they are considered dangerous and highly addictive. Furthermore, withdrawal symptoms can be severe and include depression, fatigue, paranoia, increased dreaming, irritability, bedwetting and suicide.
Will you entrust your child's mind to highly addictive and dangerous drugs? There's another, non-pharmacological solution to ADHD symptoms. Exercising the brain, combined with physical exercises can permanently improve brain function. For best results, brain training must be intense and become part of one's daily routine. The more challenging the exercises are, the greater the improvement. The brain can change, grow and become quicker and stronger in the areas where cognitive skills are weak in the ADHD brain. To overcome these developmental delays and hopefully cure ADHD, the brain must be stimulated to its full potential. Brain training is certainly a key to correcting ADHD symptoms and eliminating the need for medication. Through cognitive training a child can develop deeper ways of thinking, greater impulse control and a pattern of referring to the past to determine future actions. In addition, games can be used as mental stimulation to help these areas of the brain grow. ADHD.ADHDtherapy360 offers a custom-made program to fit the interests and talents of your child. There is no single activity that "works" but rather a multi-pronged approach to stimulate the brain to grow, increase neuronal connections and re-enforce thinking skills.
Can brain training and behavioral treatment treat ADHD?
Alternative ADHD treatments like behavior therapy can help parents control symptoms in their ADHD children without the side effects of medical treatment. The most effective alternative ADHD treatment, according to parents' testimonies and some academic standards is a combination of several methods: ADHD medications that reduce hyperactivity and improve concentration, along with behavior therapy to address some of the more subtle symptoms, such as difficulty with organizational and social skills. While other non-drug treatments — play therapy, cognitive therapy, psychotherapy, and special ADHD diets — have been regarded as promising, only behavioral treatment has been shown to work. Although ADHD specialists say they consider behavior therapy a key component of effective ADHD, few parents actually invest the necessary time and effort. Regretfully a lot of people still rely on medication alone, as a result of social pressure, the need of "here and now" end results, and the medical industry pro-prescription campaigns.
Behavior therapy – How does it work?
A behavior therapy routine can be developed by a pediatrician or a school psychologist or any mental-health worker. Based on a structured system of rewards and consequences the program also includes changes in a child’s environment to minimize distractions. Parents are also instructed on the right way to give commands and how to react when a child obeys or disobeys. The goal is to gradually teach children new ways of behaving by rewarding desired behavior, such as following directions, and eliminating undesired actions, such as losing homework. Parents often have high expectations of the effects of medications and a lack of results. Drugs will not improve self-esteem, time management or organizational skills. The problem is that most parents do not have enough time or energy for behavior therapy or are inconsistent about applying it. Sometimes, they complicate the regimen with too many rules. Keeping things simple is the key principal. Experiencing success strengthens the desired behavior.

What are the Causes of ADHD?
The cause and risk factors for ADHD are being studied by scientists, in an effort to find better ways to manage and reduce the chances of a person having ADHD. The cause(s) and risk factors for ADHD still elude science, but current research shows that genetics plays a considerable role. In addition to genetics, scientists are studying other possible causes and risk factors including:
• Brain injury
• Exposure to pollution (e.g., lead)
• Alcohol and tobacco consumption during pregnancy
• Premature delivery
• Low birth weight
ADHD Myths
A popular ADHD myth is that ADHD is caused by eating too much sugar, watching too much television, parenting, or social and environmental factors such as poverty or family chaos. These might make symptoms worse, but they haven’t been scientifically proved as the main causes of ADHD.
ADHD in Children
ADHD is one of the most common childhood developmental behavioral disorders. About 5% of all children are born with ADHD.
ADHD can be managed through a combination of medical and behavioral treatment methods.
ADHD involves five primary problems in a child’s ability to control behavior:
1. Impulse Control or Inhibition
2. Difficulty Sustaining Attention
3. Excessive Activity
4. Difficulty Following Rules and Instructions
5. Excessive Variability in their Responses to Situations
Depending on the type of Attention-Deficit Disorder that they inherit, children with ADHD may have some severe challenges in childhood to overcome. When reaching school age, they face new difficulties as they leave their comfortable home environment for the demands of a classroom. There are several effective interventions for children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, including medications, therapy for their family, cognitive and behavioral training, and diet interventions. Even at an early age ADHD can have a negative impact on social interactions with peers. If you recognize any of these symptoms in your child, try our brain training solution. • Teenagers with Impulsive Type ADHD have 400% more traffic accidents and traffic tickets related to speeding, than teens without ADD ADHD.
• Twice as many teens with ADHD will run away from home than teens without ADHD. About 16% of teens run away from home at some point, versus 32% of teens untreated for ADHD.
• 50% of all teenagers in juvenile facilities have Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder but were untreated for ADHD.
• Arson (Setting fire) is often associated with Attention-Deficit Disorder, as teens with untreated ADHD have been found three times more likely to be arrested for arson.
While the impulsive ADHD youth will often get into trouble, the inattentive ADHD kids tend to be disobedient, since they are not motivated enough to remember the things they were asked to do. Moreover, the impulsive ADHD youth is even likely to get in trouble in an illegal way, as a relief for craving the stimulation of anti-social behaviors. Teens untreated for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder face an average of two arrests by the age of 18.
